The official music video promo for The Futureheads 'I Can Do That' features the band members in a skewed superhero animation.
The characters each have certain superhuman abilities that include mind-control, teleportation, super strength and a sonic vocal powers.
Instead of using these superpowers for good, they misuse them for their own morally absent benefits, like stealing money and manipulating people.
They find themselves with the sudden opportunity to be morally upstanding, public-serving superheroes when they accidentally teleport to an active crime scene.
The characters work together and defeat a supervillain robbing a bank.
However, instead of returning the cash, they teleport it away and steal it themselves.
However, instead of returning the cash, they teleport it away and steal it themselves.
Learning nothing, this is a narrative that subverts the arguably superficial moral narrative of superhero movies. Or at least is having fun playing devils advocate with what direction people could take if they had superpowers. The suspicion is that many would not use their abilities to help others but to instead personally benefit from the ease these powers give.
The animation was created by filming the band members and actors and digitally draw over the footage in a Pop Art low frame rate, rotoscope style.
The video includes a comic border aesthetic. Shots pan to the next that shows a black frame within the scene they settles over the full screen of the video.
